This class studies the building blocks of jazz harmony, and explores why scales, intervals, chords, and chord progressions work and sound as they do.

  • Learn what notes work for improvising and accompanying
  • Learn intervals and inversions
  • Construct chords and scales
  • Learn common progressions and why they work

Student Requirements

Desire to learn, and some note reading ability is helpful. Students bring their instrument and supply 12-stave manuscript notebook and pencil.

Homework

Homework is comprised of weekly study assignments.

Class meets 1 hour weekly

Registration and Payments

Registration requires payment in full by the first meeting of a session (unless special arrangements have been made). Seats are filled on a ‘first-come, first-serve’ basis and cannot be assigned unless payment is received. Payments can be made by cash, check, or credit card.
