From II-V’s to Tunes, this year-long program of weekly hour-long classes will develop your ability to create 8th note melodic lines, and variations on song melodies.
Guided by recordings of jazz greats, the work in this class builds a melodic improviser’s jazz language and ear through exercises and studies of melodic invention devices: target notes, adjacent and passing tone melodic variations, diatonic and chromatic approach note sets, sequences, rhythmic displacement, etc.
Studies will emphasize creativity and include exercising “mix and match” capabilities by learning ideas/patterns per chord type. Substitute harmonic content and alternate scale options will also be studied.Student Requirements
Totally II-Vs successful completion or demonstrated skill level.
Class meets 1.5 hours weekly
