Song Analysis for Improv,
Erik Hanson,
Monday, 5:45-7:15pm

Class ID: CSAEXH095

Instruments:

This class will run June 17th - July 15th.

Objective

Do you wish you knew more about what notes "work" when soloing on a song? This class develops your understanding of harmonic progressions (chord progressions) and song forms to be better equipped for improvisation and memorization.
Outline
Class will cover harmonies that include diatonic chord progressions, secondary dominants, passing diminished chords, substitute dominants, and modal interchange through weekly work on:
  • Roman Numeral Analysis
  • Chord Scale Studies
  • Improvisation Exercises
Requirements
A basic understanding of chord types is helpful but not required. A basic knowledge of key signatures is the minimum knowledge needed to benefit from the class.
