Playing music together!
Beginning level combos at Jazz Night School focus on creating music as an ensemble through a listen-first approach. While written music can be provided, we strive to learn music by ear and by feel. Prior knowledge of music theory is not necessary. Each instructor has years of experience in professional music and brings an educational approach rooted in the tradition of jazz and improvised music.
Combos work on a few songs each quarter and develop skills that focus on expressive communication of the music through performance and improvisation. Instructors provide feedback and suggestions for improvement to each combo member at every rehearsal. Each session culminates in a performance at a local jazz venue.
Beginning level combos are designed to utilize skills taught in our beginning level classes - learn more about Beginning Classes.
