I am impressed with every aspect of the school. Keep doing what you think you should be doing, it's working.
"Dive in, the water's fine!" How amazing to feel so much respect and care in a educational setting. Never competitive and always supportive. Learning a new musical language among friends couldn't be easier or more challenging and its always fun. When I decided to pick up the clarinet again after 40 years, I didn't expect to play with others. I assumed I'd hire a private teacher once per week and play alone at home. I found Jazz Night School instead. After just a few months of private lessons at the school, I was placed in an ensemble class making music with other people and performing on stage at a real jazz club. Amazing. Hats off to this wonderful school that teaches adults about listening and about joy. — Jane Orvis
I have taken classes in jazz vocals which are great, but these don't necessarily teach you how to function as part of the band, since the band is often geared to the singer's needs. Thinking, listening and functioning as a part of a band was the major thing I learned here. Learning how to talk about and structure songs for performance, when and how to solo as another "instrument", and learning more theory which will help me expand what I can do when I'm improvising were some of the best aspects of the class for me. — Elaine Waller-Rose
The instructors are all so committed to getting the most from the learners, offering ideas and suggestions that builds but does not overwhelm. The time spent is transformative. The staff are all about helping us learn, grow, build confidence, and experience the joy of making music. — Drew Olivera
